As part of our follow-up actions, we have scheduled a software upgrade for the affected core router on 11 August 2026 to improve system stability and reduce the risk of this issue happening again.

History:

[2026-08-04 15:54:35 NZST] At approximately 3:30 PM, a Hamilton core router experienced a hardware forwarding timeout during a configuration change, causing a brief service interruption for some Waikato based connections.

Services have been restored. However, as a precaution, we have temporarily paused configuration changes while we investigate the cause and implement measures to prevent it from happening again.

We apologise for the disruption and will provide further updates if required.

With fibre breaks on both East and West coast of the North Island our main and primary backup paths are down for the lower North Island, particularly Wellington. The lower North Island experiencing higher latency than normal due to traffic now needing to travel via the South Island of New Zealand first. The fibre company has not yet published ETA's for either fibre path as yet, but we are hoping the first recovering will be this morning.
